An innovative portrayal of Chandalika as a solo piece by Suchismita Ganguly, an accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer.
It will powerfully present the intense desire of a marginalised woman named Praktriti (the protagonist) to possess the man who treats her as a social equal. Suchismita will be seen performing the key characters of both Prakriti, the daughter and her mother, in this classic work by Indian Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
The choreography is based on the Indian classical dance form of Bharatnatyam, and incorporates elements of intense dance theatre with creative use of props and dramatic lighting.
Suchismita hopes that through this production she will not only create an unique dance-theatrical experience for her audience but will also inspire varied creative possibilities in the presentation of South Asian Dance.
